Evening Darlings! If you didn’t see, on Tuesday it was Country Classic Lucinda’s first birthday- and we made a pretty big deal out of it! Can you believe we have made it through the first year? Blogging is a huge passion of mine, and I have been so lucky that all of the hard work I put into the blog and it’s content, really pays off.

As a huge thank you to my audience, I wanted to launch a giveaway, so that one of the CCL followers could win a mega bundle of Summer prizes. It doesn’t take any explaining that I am obsessed with this brand. I have adored them for years- and I have quite the collection, which sees endless use. I purchased my first pair of boots whilst at University, and it seemed a huge investment at the time, but that very pair of boots is still going strong. Grays 1922

Founded in 1922, Grays is an Englsih lifestyle brand, selling country gifts and equestrian themed leather products. I have various products from Grays, and their leather products really do get better with age. As an equestrian myself, I automatically gravitate towards equestrian inspired products and accessories. Anything with a snaffle bit on, is usually a yes from me. There is something very special about Grays products.

This brand has featured several times throughout out my blog, so you’ll be no stranger to how much I love this brand, and how highly I think of them and their products. I am an equestrian myself, and somewhat of an awful shot, so I have put my SH products to use practically, as well as using them as stylish pieces to make up my country wardrobe – ticking all the boxes for me!

I have owned a pair of these SH sunglasses myself, so I can speak from experience when I speak about these – they have also featured as part of previous blogs, so you can always find out a little more about them. I am very picky about my sunglasses. I have a small head, and I drive A LOT, so finding something comfortable, practical and something that doesn’t tint the light too weirdly is a must for me.

I have raved about this brand before in several blogs now, and I still stand by what I’ve said many a times. I LOVE this brand, everything about it from the limited numbers of products – knowing that what you’re wearing is unique, to the values the brand holds. This is definitely something people are much more concious of now, and they want to know more ‘behind the scenes’ from brands, and the values that they base their business on. The ultimate guide to what to wear to Burghley Horse Trials, from country clothing and colour analysis to the styling rules that will make your outfit look effortlessly chic. Let’s get into it! The 2026 Defender Burghley Horse Trials take place from Thursday 3 September to Sunday 6 September, with dressage on Thursday and Friday, cross country on Saturday and show jumping on Sunday. There are few events quite like the Defender Burghley Horse Trials. Set against the magnificent backdrop of Burghley House and its beautiful parkland, it is a world-class equestrian competition, and, of course, one of the highlights of the country and equestrian social calendar. Whilst the horses are undoubtedly the stars of the show, Burghley is a brilliant occasion to embrace quintessentially British style. So, if you are wondering what to wear to Burghley Horse Trials 2026, this is your guide to getting the look just right. The Rule of 3: the easiest way to make an outfit look expensive One of my favourite styling rules is the Rule of 3, and the idea is incredibly simple: Choose a colour and repeat it three times throughout your outfit. This is great if you want to add a statement colour to your outfit, or if you want to dial up the interest in a neutral outfit, It doesn’t have to be exactly the same shade, tonal variations can be used and look just as sophisticated. For example: Chocolate brown boots + a chocolate brown leather belt + a chocolate brown bag. Burgundy fedora + burgundy knitwear + burgundy handbag. Tan scarf + tan belt + tan footwear. The eye will naturally connect the three elements, making the entire outfit look pulled together, effortlessly! How to use colour analysis for your outfit Colour analysis is another brilliant way to make country clothing feel modern and flattering. Rather than automatically reaching for traditional khaki, brown and navy, think about which country colours really suit you. You can find out if you have a cool or warm undertone, by looking at your veins. If you look at the veins on your inner wrist, in natural indirect daylight. If the veins are blue or purple, this points to a cool undertone. Green veins point to a warm undertone, and if you have a mix of the two, a neutral undertone. If you want to determine how much ‘brightness’ you could handle, think about the following: If you have high contrast between your skin, hair, and eyes, vivid colours will often make you pop. However, if your features blend together gently with low contrast, softer tones will flatter you best. If you have warm colouring, you could try: Olive, Camel, Moss Green, Rust, Chocolate, Warm Cream, Burgundy, Tan. If you have cool colouring, consider: Navy, Forest Green, Plum, Cool Taupe, Slate, Soft White, Berry Shades. If you have a softer colouring, try: Sage, Mushroom, Dusty Blue, Soft Olive, Stone, Oatmeal, Soft Camel. If you suit high contrast, consider stringer colour combinations like Navy/Cream/Burgundy, Green/White/Chocolate. What to wear to Burghley Horse Trials in September September is the perfect month for country styling because you can embrace layers. Your outfit will need to be prepared for a warmer afternoon, a chilly morning and potentially a sudden shower or two! Your outwear piece is likely to be the foundation of building your Burghley outfit. This might be a gilet, tweed blazer, lightweight waterproof or wax jacket. Whatever the piece you choose, you are likely to be working around this. If you are investing in one piece specifically for the Horse Trials, choose something that you know you will wear again throughout the autumn/winter season ahead. I would recommend an olive, navy, tan or chocolate wax or quilted jacket will work with almost everything in your wardrobe. Tweed is a great place to start, you don’t have to go all out with a full matching outfit, try incorporating a tweed skirt or a tweed blazer into a more neutral look. I like to wear tweed with white/navy or black jeans, and leather boots, or a tweed skirt with a white blouse and suede boots. When it comes to jeans, I try to avoid anything too casual. I opt for solid colours of cream, brown, navy or black over blue denim, and I would avoid anything washed or distressed. Wide leg trousers often look great with a cropped jacket, whilst corduroy’s are a great opportunity to add texture to your look. Burghley is still the perfect opportunity to style a dress, particularly if the weather is still warmer. Adding a country jacket and boots keeps the look perfect for a horse trials, and adding a knit over your shoulders looks instantly pulled together. What shoes should you wear to a horse trials? This is where practicality matters, particularly if you are attending on Cross Country day, and you are planning on walking the course. I say it every, single, time, but a Horse Trials just isn’t the time for breaking in a new pair of shoes, or rolling with the ‘pain is beauty’ mindset. You are likely to walk considerably more than you expect. My footwear top choices: Tall leather or suede bootsExcellent with jeans, dresses and cords. Chelsea bootsSmart, practical and easy to dress up. LoafersBeautiful if the weather is dry and you aren’t planning a long course walk. Deck shoes Perfectly acceptable for a more contemporary country look, particularly with tailored trousers. The accessories that make the outfit Accessories are the best way to complete your look, and create that really polished finish to your outfit. The belt Adding a belt is one of the easiest ways to make jeans or a skirt look more put together. It is just a really simple way to go from wearing an outfit, to styling an outfit. It is adding in these little details that make all the difference. Adding in a belt is also the perfect opportunity to utilise the Rule of 3. Brown belt? Repeat brown in your boots and handbag. Or, why not use your help to add in a brighter colour, and then continue to add in the colour through two other pieces. The scarf A silk scarf instantly elevates a simple outfit, and there are so many different ways of tying your scarf, it is such a simple way to keep changing up your outfits. There are lots of country inspired and equestrian designs out there, which look particularly thoughtful with your horse trials outfits. Try tying one: around your neck ( you can research so many different ways to tie), on your handbag or in your hair. The bag A little like footwear, I think choosing for practicality is important, especically if you are planning on walking the course. Yo will want to pick something that has enough space to carry around everything you need for the day, and I personally like opting for something with a shoulder strap, as not only does this free up your hands, but it does make it easier to carry throughout the day. I would choose a good quality leather or suede bag, this adds texture to your outfit, but they are also good investment pieces that you will use time and time again. The hat A hat can work really well for horse trials styling. I personally like opting for either a wood or straw fedora, depending on the weather for the event. A fedora can be the perfect accessory whether it is to keep the sun off your eyes, or the rain off your hair! What colours are perfect for Burghley? If you’re looking for the ultimate country colour palette, start with the landscape. Think: Olive green, Forest green, Navy, Camel, Chocolate brown, Burgundy, Cream, Tan, Oatmeal, Moss Green. The beauty of these colours is that almost all of them work together. One of my favourite formulas is:60% neutral + 30% secondary colour + 10% accent You can use the Rule of 3 to repeat your accent colour. Which day should you visit Burghley Horse Trials? Thursday – for dressage and shoppingIdeal if you love fashion, shopping and a slightly more relaxed atmosphere. Friday – for dressage, shopping and masterclassesA brilliant option if you want to combine the competition with plenty of time to explore the showground. Saturday – for the ultimate Burghley experienceThis is the day for Cross Country, big jumps, picnics, country style and atmosphere. It is also the busiest day, so plan ahead. Sunday – for the finalePerfect if you want to see the final horse inspection, show jumping, the Parade of Hounds and the prize presentation. My ultimate Burghley outfit formula I will quite often stick to simple outfit formulas, which you will often see repeated throughout my event styling. If I had to create my Burghley outfit right now, this is what I’d choose: – Chocolate Fedora hat– Fleece gilet – Wax jacket (for layering if needed)– White or country check shirt/blouse or cable knit jumper if colder– Tweed skirt– Chocolate suede belt – Chocolate suede knee high boots – A brown leather bag And there you can see the Rule of 3 being used:Chocolate boots + chocolate belt + chocolate hat. Steal my Style – What I wore to The Game Fair 2026August 14, 2026
Hello my Darlings, and welcome back to the blog. It has been a busy old time, with a trip to California, and The Game Fair both last month. This isn’t going to be a very long blog, but I really wanted to share with you some of the outfit details from my outfits at The Game Fair, particularly as there are still a lot of shows and horse trials coming up, and you might like to The Game Fair 2026 took place from 24–26 July at Ragley Hall in Warwickshire, bringing together a huge selection of countryside life and rural pursuits. It featured traditional fieldsports such as shooting, fishing, falconry and gundogs, alongside horses, hounds, countryside demonstrations, food, rural crafts and plenty of exhibitors. We attend the event every year, and I have been going since a child, so it is a really special event for me. It represents everything I love, and is a real celebration of the true passion found in the Countryside. We spent two days at the event, enjoying everything from the demonstrations, to the have a go fishing and archery, to the fine guns on Gunmakers row. If you have never been to The Game Fair, it runs every year, and it can next be enjoyed on 23rd – 25th July 2027, where it will be held at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire. Day One So… What did I wear?Well for day one, I opted for this gorgeous dress from Schoffel, I have this in cream and navy, and you will have seen me reaching for these countless times. They are the easiest piece to throw on, but the fit and shape is really flattering, and good for all occasions! I accessorised around the dress with a Holland Cooper hat – perfect for keeping the bright sun we had off my face, a Fairfax & Favor bag, and some Salthouse England loafers. Again, you’ll have seen these loafers a lot, and that is because they are just so comfortable! I paired this with a tweed skirt, really leaning into that country styling. I accessorised with a beautiful silk scarf from Goldcrest and Tide, who were actually exhibiting at The Game Fair for the first time this year! Another accessory really leaning into that countryside styling was this gorgeous homemade hairband from J&T country. This one is made from pheasant feathers. I finished off the look with some pink deck shoes from Holland Cooper, and their chunky tortoiseshell sunglasses! From what to see and do at Ragley Hall to the Welligogs Best Dressed Ladies Competition and exactly what to wear, this Game Fair 2026 guide covers what to expect before you arrive. There are certain weekends in the country calendar that I look forward to all year, and The Game Fair is undoubtedly one of them. Whether you are passionate about country sports, love discovering new brands, enjoy watching main arena displays or simply appreciate a day immersed in the countryside, it’s an event that has something for everyone. If you’re planning your visit to The Game Fair this year, this guide covers everything you need to know – from what to expect to how to plan the perfect outfit. What is The Game Fair, and when is it? Often described as the UK’s biggest celebration of country life, The Game Fair truly brings together everything that makes the English countryside so special. Held annually, the event attracts thousands of visitors, celebrating rural traditions and country living, with shooting, fishing and working dogs remaining at the heart of the show. The Game Fair 2026 takes place from Friday 24th July to Sunday 26th July 2026 at the beautiful Ragley Hall Estate in Warwickshire. What is there to see and do at The Game Fair? Throughout the weekend, the main arena is the hub of exciting demonstrations and must see entertainment. Expect to see horses, working dogs and birds of pray, amongst many other things! The shopping village is the perfect place to discover established country brands alongside exciting independent or up and coming businesses. There is everything from country clothing, to artisan food and beautiful gifts. The Gundog Arena and Fishing Village are also must see areas. As well as the food area. Lots of local food and drinks to try. It’s always irresistible! The Welligogs Best Dressed Ladies Competition If there’s one event that has become synonymous with the Friday at The Game Fair, it’s the Welligogs Best Dressed Ladies Competition. Every year, there’s the chance to catch the eye of the Welligogs judging team, with incredible prizes up for grabs. It’s a fantastic opportunity to celebrate timeless style, individuality and confidence. You don’t need to pre-register, members of the Welligogs team walk the show looking for ladies whose outfits perfectly capture country styling. Those selected are then invited over to the Welligogs stand at 2pm for the final judging. The judges will look beyond individual pieces and focus on the overall look. Wear something that makes you feel comfortable and confident. The best outfits are always the ones that feel authentic, and allow you to ooze your natural confidence. My Top Tips if You’re Entering Country fashion is something I know well, so you’re in safe hands here if you need some inspiration, or aren’t quite sure where to start. Choose timeless The Game Fair has always celebrated classic country style. Your outfit doesn’t need to follow trends, be the most expensive, or be oozing loads of brands. Look to those pieces which celebrate country styling – tweed skirts, tailored blazers, fitted shirts, practical footwear and good quality leather accessories will never date. It’s easy to get caught up in the idea of your outfit. But try to keep things simple and focused. If you really don’t know where to start, opt for a neutral base, and we can add to it. Once you’ve established the base of your outfit, you can then look to add your accessories – making it individual to you and your own style. How to accessorise The base of your outfit is only the start, finding the right accessories and colours to add are what complete your look. A silk scarf, matching belt, or a fedora hat can elevate even the simplest outfit. If you’re adding colour to a neutral base, I like to use the rule of three, this allows good proportions when adding colour. Pick three items: hats, belts, scarves, bags, shoes in the same colour, to tie a colour pop seamlessly into your look. Accessories are the chance to really make your outfit your own. Think about what represents your style, and how you want to reflect that in your outfit. Footwear and practicality is key Embrace true British weather through your styling. Not only do you want to enter this competition, you also want to have an amazing day, and be comfortable in your outfit! You’ll be spending hours walking around the show, so your footwear needs to work just as hard as the rest of your outfit. This isn’t the time for breaking in a brand new pair of shoes, or a pain is beauty mentality. I would personally leave the wedges or open toe sandals behind for this event. Smart suede boots on cooler days or elegant loafers are a brilliant option. If the weather is wet and rainy (and it has been before!), wellies are the way to go. Although this year’s event looks a warm one, so really consider that through your outfit choices. I’d also recommend taking a shoulder bag. This frees up your hands when you’re doing lots of walking. And also gives you space to carry around what you need – anything from sunglasses and suncream, to an umbrella! What to wear to The Game Fair 2026 This is a question I receive more than any other in the weeks leading up to the event, and the good news is that there really isn’t a strict dress code. The Game Fair really allows us to embrace country styling that we know and love so well, and there isn’t a right or wrong way to do it. However, I know lots of you love to hear my suggestions for the event, so I’ve put together a few easy to replicate outfit options that you could recreate from your own wardrobes. Outfit Idea One: A Classic Country Look You can never go wrong with timeless tailoring, and The Game Fair is the perfect place to showcase this. Start with a crisp white or pale blue shirt, and add a tailored pair of chinos or slim-fit trousers, I think a white, navy or cream works best. Depending on the weather, you can layer with a tweed blazer, or 1/4 zip over your shoulders. I’d finish this look with leather or suede tall boots (cooler days) or loafers, a matching suede or leather belt and a shoulder bag. Outfit Idea Two: The Summer Dress Edit If the forecast is warm, a dress is one of my favourite options to go for. Breathable natural fabrics such as cotton or linen are a great choice, and is usually stick to block colours – navy or white are a good, classic choice. A dress can really be paired with whatever footwear of your choosing. I would opt for tall boots, loafers or deck shoes in my personal preference. I love adding a fedora to my hat look. You don’t always have to go for heavy wool, there are lightweight options which look just as good. These really help to keep the sun off your face, and add something extra to the look. Outfit Idea Three: The Linen Lover Nothing feels quite as effortless in summer as beautifully cut linen, and with our Summers getting warmer and warmer, feeling comfortable is so informant with your outfit. Linen trousers or tailored linen shorts, paired with a l blouse can create an elegant but comfortable outfit that’s practical for a full day outdoors. I’d consider wearing whites, navy, pale pink or baby blue. Finish your look with a pair of deck shoes or suede loafers, classic leather accessories and delicate jewellery for an understated look. I’d also again consider a straw style fedora to weave into country styling. Outfit Idea Four: The Country Uniform This is perhaps the outfit most people associate with The Game Fair – a classic tweed skirt. I would team the skirt with either a shirt or top depending on the weather – you can add knitwear if it’s cooler, or a timeless gilet. This look pairs equally well with deck shoes, loafers or tall boots. You can shop the pieces in all these looks above here 🌟 What Shoes Should You Wear? Footwear is probably the most important decision you’ll make when it comes to your outfit, and it’s something you’ll see me stress about in all of my country show blogs. The Game Fair spans a large area and you’ll easily walk a lot throughout the day. I would personally choose comfort every time at these events. Blisters and shoes rubbing, especially at the start of the day, can quite literally ruin your day. I would opt for wellies if it is raining and the ground is saturated, tall boots in suede or leather on cooler days, or deck shoes/loafers on warmer days. Final Thoughts For me, The Game Fair is so much more than just an event in the summer calendar, it’s a true celebration of everything we love about the English countryside.
